I just think it's funny because I moved from Eastern Wisconsin to Minnesota, so when I say soda people look at me strangely. When I say "pop" though, I'm usually talking about my Dad...

from Western Canada ....

Soda references Soda Water (like what you would use with Bitters or in Scotch or Bourbon)
Pop is everything else that is carbonated ... oh ... except Ginger Ale ... Ginger Ale is ... Ginger Ale!

Cheers ... with a cranberry & soda

I thought it was a southern thing too--I've never heard it called pop in California. On the other hand, to me a soda has ice cream in it. It also has to do with context, such as in "They only serve soft drinks." Personally, I always order a Coke and really bitch if they only have Pepsi.

In Birmingham (UK) it was 'pop', but in Bermuda it is 'soda', so I just order 'beer'. lol

Have never heard the words 'soda' or 'pop' used in England. I just call it whatever the drink is, Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, lemonade etc etc

My folks brought up a half case of Coca~Cola and a half case of Cherry Coke for xmas dinner. There were 8 cans of the gunk left and I drank 'em all on Sunday, whilst watching NFL games on the tv.

I usually drink a gallon and a half of water a day.

I woke up Monday morning and felt like someone had been kicking me in my kidneys all night long. Now I realize why I felt like shit whenever I'd go out with my buddies and knock back stiff mixed drinks - back when I used to do that.

Pop/Soda - whatever...It's not very good for ya.

Depends on where I'm at. If visiting in Ohio it's pop. If visiting below the mason/dixon line it's coke. If in Florida it's soda. If in Europe it's wine. LOL.
