Like many other porn performers, I followed August on Twitter and although I don't know her personally, it's still a surreal feeling to be following someone who is no longer with us.
For the situation itself; I feel as though she shouldn't have explained her reasoning publicly especially on a website like Twitter. She should have declined the scene, kept quiet and moved on but unfortunately, she didn't. Although it was a mistake on her part, it didn't warrant any of the hatred or abuse that she received from fellow performers as well as fans. It was blown completely out of proportion and it really begs a question as to how many performers are pressured into having sex with someone they really don't want to have sex with? The Adult Entertainment business has and always will be a very shady place.
As sad as it is hearing that a young woman with her whole life ahead of her (She was 23) finding the only way out is to take her own life, I hope this opens a lot of eyes. Online harassment isn't a joke, it's a very serious thing and has extremely serious consequences.

Sad. Don't follow the XXX scene at all anymore, but this once again shows how fucked up social media is. Porn stars should be able to choose their co-stars without having to justify those choices publicly. I don't know the full story of why she did so in this case.
This is just awful. She was one of my favorites and always made hot videos. I really liked her. It's just a shame...

And if anyone on here doubts that online abuse and personal attacks can drive you to this state of desperation, let me assure you that it can.

A large percentage of female pornstars refuse to work with male porn actors that have done "gay" work. I sincerely doubt that that was the only issue in this situation though.
I agree - my husband is struggling with something similar, right now, and I'd compare suicide to being the tip of the iceberg . . . you see that, but there's so much more going on underneath. That's why people need to be proactive and vigilant.
Very sad to say the least. I would certainly hope it wasn't a suicide, but this is a great loss. I would also certainly hope that this situation she dealt with the guy isn't common. Doesn't every actor and actress have a say who they work with? STDs are no joking matter, and no one should have to risk that just to shoot a scene. August will be missed.
