Friends question

I am pretty new to Lushstories , perhaps someone can answer this question for me -
If I am accepted by someone as their friend what is the significance of this ? Do I need to be their friend to chat with them or send them emails ? Are there any other advantages to being a friend ?

Primarily the benefits are that you can 'Online Message' with a friend and post on each others 'Wall' (The right hand side of a profile has a section entitled 'Friends Comments' and below that a box, 'Add a comment', for you to post images, text or even videos; this is known as posting on someones Wall).
