Beware if you have any incorrect punctuation

My God!!!

(It's been YEARS since I submitted my First One!!!)

What I've learned SINCE is to present the work as PROFESSIONALLY as possible in terms of grammar, punctuation, House Style etc... (It saves TIME in getting posted AND ultimately disciplines you to being a TIGHTER writer!)

MANY of my submissions have been returned/bounced for various reasons. (The way it's done here is IF THAT HAPPENS you are given clear reasons why this is the case...) The beauty of LS is that if you NEED more clarification you can generally ask questions and be advised...

After SIX YEARS and quite a few stories I STILL occasionally get bounced to this day! (I have not ALWAYS dealt with that well!!!)

But GENERALLY the Story Mod team are right... (Okay, MOST OFTEN they are right...) OKAY THEY'RE JUST FUCKING RIGHT!!! *GRRRRRRRRR!*

I WILL SAY that my experience here has made me a BETTER WRITER right across the board.

xx SF

(If you've submitted a story twice or three times AND IT IS STILL being returned, a request to a more established writer here to HELP will often pay dividends... Not EVERYONE can or will do this, but you'll be pleasantly surprised if you ask nicely!!! I've done this A FEW times... The ONLY TIMES it doesn't work is if you ask someone for help/advice/edit with a piece that is VASTLY DIFFERENT in terms of STYLE or CONTENT to that which they themselves normally do... People have in the past asked me to advise on stuff and I've had to say, 'Look, I JUST DON'T GET IT!')

I submitted my first story back in August, and things have gone pretty well over the four months since. I have listened to advice offered by others, and made a few changes to my style that have improved my writing. I’ve ignored a few other suggestions. As long as it’s within the rules, just go with whatever works for you whilst being mindful that you can always get better.

And just when you think your story is finished, edit, edit and edit it again. In my experience, there’s always something that I’ve overlooked. I’ve never had a story returned, but more than once a friendly moderator has corrected a stupid spelling mistake that I somehow missed.

March of 2011 was my first and I have now written and posted 75 stories and poems. I work very hard on each submission to hopefully create something better than my previous one. Progress is a continual process and never ends. I still have a long way to go to get to where I want to be. There are several authors here on Lush that I admire and respect very much. They inspire me.

Keep on pushing yourself and most of all, love doing it.

April 2013 was my first submission here. I have since written 537 stories and poems.

I enjoy writing and have come a long way since my first submission. I still feel I have a lot to learn.

The moderating staff is friendly and very helpful to make sure your submission makes it to the front page.

I know you will enjoy your writing journey here. Best of luck to you.

Hugs,
Mysteria

Mine was just a few days ago, and so far so good!

Taking the feedback well so far, the secret is to write, write, write and erm, write! As a Dyslexic it has been a battle for me to get the confidence to actuall write. Now I love it - All the best :-)

Congratulations!

It's been a couple years since I posted my first story. It was a really great experience. I had an awesome editor help me. She made sure the story was perfect upon submission. Shylass worked with me patiently over a couple weeks, until it was ready to be posted. It's still my most loved story, though my writing(I think) has improved tremendously.

Best of luck with your writing endeavours in the future.

Congratulations. Just keep working at it, taking in any advice given to you by the mods. As well, remember that we all had to start with a first effort. Time and practice will improve your work and your instincts about it. Good for you for passing this first milestone.

@ LloydOxton

Several of the top writers on the site are dyslexic, so please don't let that hold you back. It is understandable if you have to put more time into your work, but please persevere. I was a senior story moderator for about three years and would be happy to offer you any advice you need. It may help to have some people that you can rely on to proofread and edit your work.

Lloyd, I'm dyslexic too. Keep on writing and don't let it beat you. You can whip dyslexia. I know 2 other dyslexics who are among the top authors here.

Welcome to Lush, and congratulations on your first Lush story post! Mine was about a year and a half ago, and I had to quickly unlearn a bunch of bad writing habits I had picked up writing on the web for 8 years without any constructive criticism. Now, 30 stories later, my writing skills have improved immensely, thanks to Lush and its talented squad of moderators. They really know their stuff, and any writer will become a better writer here. So, good luck with your story, and keep 'em cummin'!

@ Ophelia Well done you did it!

@principessa Thank you. I am a very tenacious person, just did not previously apply it to my writing!

I submitted my first story two weeks after I joined Lush. It got bounced three times before it was posted. I was really annoyed and frustrated at the time, but it made me learn very very quickly and in hindsight the rejections where the best thing that happened to me here as well as the advice I got from the moderating team. I'm on the other side of the fence now, and love helping people improve the quality of their writing and seeing their stories posted. I never saw myself as a writer, let alone an erotic one but Lush has taken me in a direction I never imagined for one second I'd go. I love it!

I've noticed this is one of the few social sites that has more posts with correct grammar and punctuation than not.

I get serious butterflies before every single story I submit. I was less nervous with my first because I literally joined Lush and submitted it. Now, I have a following and friends and I'm always terrified they won't like my style or story line. I used to be concerned about comments/votes etc. but now, so long as someone GETS it (appreciates my characters, feels for them) I'm good. So long as you are happy with what you're writing, you should be content. Hope you post tonnes more on Lush! smile

March 2014 I posted my first story, I was very nervous about how it would be received. Reader comments are what helped me to make each one better than the last. I have a couple of top authors here that are gracious enough to give me brutal feedback on my final drafts before submission, and that helps a lot. Enjoy, have fun with it and don't be afraid to ask for help in advance.

I've just submitted my first story for moderator approval. How exciting! When did you first submit a story to LUSH?

If I remember correctly, I submitted 32 stories here the first day I joined...a little over six years ago...damn, is it really that long ago?
