I remember when my Dad and I were fishing and we caught a sand shark! It was pretty scary as you can't just grab one and toss it back because its scales are like razors, so you would get shredded. It was also banging its tail on our little boat and almost capsized it!
It took my uncle in a bigger boat to come over and help us throw it back in. That was something I will always remember.

I remember when our military service had men who were hard as nails and didn't have to worry about saying the wrong thing. Now if someone is not PC, the ones in power are so brainwashed by the politicians that the brave ones who aren't PC end up paying for it. It's weakened our service.

When Thomas the tank engine were stories by George Carlin/Ringo Starr's character mr. Conductor on shining time station
Being called a "goof" meant you were acting foolish
A screw and screwdriver were tools
Eating at a dining room table together with family not the living room on the couch a different times
Gas was 54 cents a litre
Family time was playing board games not watching tv
When imagination was used by children for fun
When children were diciplined instead of bribed when having a tantrum in stores
And the streetlights coming on was the curfew singal
Manhunt was a game not people responding to an amber alert
Amber alert was the yellow stop light warning us at corners
When marriages lasted til death do us part
No one worried about germs as badly as they do now
How home cooking meant making a meal from scratch not microwaving a frozen dinner
Kids were allowed to get dirty not kept in sterile bubbles
listening to my father's oldies cassettes of Peter Paul and Mary

I remember when fashionable meant bell bottom jeans and sexy mini skirts - while bras were out of fashion.. Gas was around 35 cents a gallon..The original Hawaii Five O was the top rated show on the tube.. Otis Redding's Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay was #1 on the charts with The Graduate the most popular at the box office...

I remember when if you bought a lady a bag of cheese and onion crisps (30g jeez not the bigger one!) and a half of the cheapest lager in the pub you were guaranteed to get your evil way with her later :p (These days I understand its about 15 vodka's with red bull and a take away!)

I remember when cigarettes from a machine were a quarter and came with 2 pennies down the side of the pack. Also when we thought 52 cents a gallon for gas was outrageous!!! DANG!!

I remember during the gas crisis of the early 70's getting up at 5am to go with mom to sit in a line of cars for 2 hours... Hoping to make it to the pumps before we ran out of gas... Gas then was about 40 cents a gallon...

First, we survived being born to mothers who took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms.......WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
When we did something we were not supposed to or got into trouble, we got spanked (by a hand, a hairbrush, or a belt). But we never thought of calling the police or Social Services to report our parents for child abuse!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

I remember when there was only 13 stations on TV to pick from, and most were filled with soaps during the day, followed by Rickie Lake, Maury, Jerry Springer, Oprah. Thankfully we've managed to get rid of most of these.

I remember too much! LOL Really, I remember when nearly every neighborhood had its own main street lined with Ma and Pa operations. I miss that and all the people you got to know there.
